Libya: Italian Interior Min. discusses cooperation on immigration during visit

TRIPOLI (AFP) - Italian Interior Minister Roberto Maroni and Libyan officials on Tuesday discussed how to stem the flow of illegal immigrants to Europe, the state-run JANA news agency reported.

Maroni met Libyan Interior Minister Abdelfattah al-Obeidi for follow-up talks centring on a 2008 agreement between the two countries to combat illegal immigration from the north African nation, JANA said.

The agreement 'opens up new perspectives' for Libya and Italy and Rome is ready to help Tripoli stem the flow of illegal migrants to Europe, JANA reported Maroni as saying.
