SC yet to fund enforcement mechanismsColumbia -- A hotline and database called for in last year's huge immigration reform law has yet to start because the agency assigned to do the work hasn't been given the money.
Janie Davis, executive director for the state Commission on Minority Affairs, said the agency was supposed to operate a hotline to accept complaints and information about illegal immigrants. The database was supposed to help track immigration information received by all state agencies. But she said without the $287,287 needed for startup costs, the agency can't begin the work.
