China: Police say court ruling may have sparked influx of illegals

A court ruling that Pakistani asylum seekers had not broken immigration laws by taking up paid work might have led to an influx of illegal immigrants from South Asia, police say.

Since the March ruling the number of arrests of non-Chinese illegal immigrants has quadrupled.

Most were from South Asian countries such as Pakistan, India and Nepal, and sneaked into Hong Kong by speedboat from the mainland.
