Canada: Report urges flexibility for nannies who quit jobs over abuse

Nannies who quit their jobs because they are mistreated should be given more time to meet requirements to become permanent residents of Canada before being deported, says a new report.
'No one should feel that they have to tolerate mistreatment in the short term for the long-term gain of permanent residency,' said a report from the parliamentary foreign affairs committee on non-status and temporary foreign workers tabled in the Commons yesterday.
The report offers dozens of recommendations to improve the temporary foreign worker programs many businesses rely on as a quick solution to labour shortages.
