Philippines: Foreign animal rights protesters threatened with deportation
May 01, 2009
The immigration chief warned foreign animal rights activists yesterday that they can be deported for taking part in protests.
Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan issued the warning after women from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, posed for photographers in bikinis and called for a boycott of the Manila Zoo.
'They cannot just protest here, especially if it violates the culture of Filipinos,' he said. 'Foreigners should have no business joining these mass actions because it is tantamount to meddling in our country's internal affairs.'
