Bahamas: Stranded Haitian illegals repatriated

April 29, 2009
Immigration officials have repatriated more than 100 illegal immigrants who were found stranded on a cay in the southern Bahamas on Monday.

Director of Immigration Jack Thompson told The Nassau Guardian yesterday that Immigration and police officers on Inagua were kept busy over the past two days as they transported the group of migrants to Matthew Town, Inagua.

'The Bahamas Immigration Department officers stationed on the island of Inagua, along with Police and Defence Force officers, worked through the night [Monday] to bring to Matthew Town a number of illegal immigrants who would have attempted to approach the area from the west side of Inagua.'
