Philippines: Bureau of Immigration launches job-generating visas

In recognition of the efforts of foreign investors in helping the government create new jobs for Filipinos, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) recently launched at its district office in Laoag City the new job-generating visa.

Commissioner Marcelino C. Libanan led the launching of the Special Visa for Employment Generation (SVEG) which has contributed to creating 1,113 full-time jobs in the tourism industry in the city and around the area of Pagudpud, and in the mining industry in the province.

House Speaker Prospero Nograles, as well as several other congressmen and local executives, joined the launching of SVEG in Laoag City, and cited BI for its new roles in attracting more foreign investors to the Philippines to create jobs.

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-three foreigners doing business in Ilocos Norte province have been given indefinite visas by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for hiring more than 10 Filipino workers.

Immigration Commissioner Marcelino C. Libanan awarded the special visas during the launch of the Special Visa for Employment Generation (SVEG) in Ilocos.

Libanan said the 23 foreigners created 1,113 full-time jobs in the tourism industry in Ilocos Norte's Pagudpod town and in the mining industry in the entire province.
