Mexico: Central bank: remittances declined by 3% in Feb.

April 02, 2009
Mexico City (AP) -- Mexico's central bank says the money Mexicans living abroad sent home in February fell 3 percent compared to the same period in 2008.

Even so, the drop was less than in January, when remittances were down 12 percent compared to January 2008.

Remittances have been dropping because of the U.S. recession as well as a crackdown on illegal immigration that has stemmed migration.
